One of my 101 Things to accomplish in 1,001 days was to find a way to creatively display my wedding vows. My Grandmother made us a beautiful wedding cross-stitch, which combined with a wedding picture and our typed vows make a very pretty little display in our bedroom. I used one black frame, one gold, and one brown. When spray-painted black they all look the same!

(The wedding quilt my Mom made us is folded over the chair – it’s too hot during a Kansas summer for more than a sheet!)

A closer view:

I think it adds a special touch to our room to have our beautiful wedding sampler and our vows hung on the wall. They serve as a good reminder of the precious gift and joyful work of being married!

The Monthly Round Up Challenge at Org Junkie this month was to clean out your make-up and hair supplies. Seeing as how I wear very little make-up and tend to wear my hair in the same style every day (down and straight – boring, I know) I didn’t have a whole lot of work to do.

However, I worked on this project while Cole was home and we ended up using it as an excuse to clean stuff we don’t use out of the bathroom. We have switched to much more natural and simple bathroom products over the course of the summer (more on this topic to come in just a few days!) but had yet to clean all the other junk we weren’t using out of the room. So, after a whole room clean out, here is what our bathroom storage is looking like:

We store the products that we use while getting ready in this shoe organizer on the back of the bathroom door. Every single pocket used to be full – almost overflowing in my pockets. There are now almost two whole rows that have nothing in them; there is just nothing to put there! Wahoo!

There used to be a plastic set of three drawers under the sink; one drawer held my hair ties, one held my makeup, and one held my mirror. That was overkill and took up valuable storage space! Instead I can put all of my makeup in this little case that fits in one of the pockets behind the door:

(This is really all the makeup I wear on a given day.)

(All of my make-up.)

One I use up all of the make-up that I have now I am planning to switch to using mineral makeup as it is much better for my skin! I use so little and have been able to find it greatly reduced in a variety of places that I think it would be a good and easy transition!

We then used the newly found free space under the sink to store our stockpile of bathroom supplies. Instead of storing these things in the linen closet, we can now store all of the products that we need for a year under the sink! And we can use the linen closet to store linens!

The boxes store all of the supplies we will need and the blue fabric pouch holds all of my hair ties and clips.

That’s my bathroom organization project – if you want to see more bathroom organization inspiration, visit Org Junkie!

School is at it’s absolute busiest – both at work and graduate school. But cleaning the house right before the school year starts seems like an absolute ideal time for our family. Right before things get busy for another nine months I clean out and declutter the house.

The first floor is clean!

I decided to complete this cross stitch project for our Colorado mountain themed basement. My husband loves wolves – they are such majestic and beautiful animals! One of these days we will have a Siberian Huskie and she will be our “little wolf.”

There is a running joke between us about how I “hate wolves.” It’s not at all true and I don’t know how it started, but it’s been a fun joke. Thus, when I chose to take up cross-stitch again, I knew this was the project that needed to be completed first I think it turned out really cute and it’s a perfect part of our basement!

This bucket was purchased at a thrift store for $.50 and the flowers were 50% off.

This cute little bird was a dollar store find.

My mom bought me this cute pitcher and the artificial fern inside.

These little details help bring the beauty of nature into our house and brighten up the room. Did you notice my love of white, brown, and green together? Yes, it’s a beautiful combination of colors!

These are a few specific examples of how we have decorated our house while spending very little money – it’s such a fun adventure! And we love our house!
