About

I am a daughter of the most high God. He is my daily sustenance and guide. I never cease to be in absolute awe of where God has taken me and the things he has done in me. I seek to be constantly learning and growing in my faith as I learn to lean more on his goodness and grace to me.

I am a wife. I have been married to my wonderful husband, Cole, since August 11, 2007. He is a software engineer at Garmin, where he works to create GPS devices for marine vehicles. I am so blessed to be his wife and love learning more about how to be his helpmeet.

I am a homemaker. I enjoy working towards ensuring that our home provides warmth, comfort, and a reminder of God’s goodness to all that enter. We seek to live a life of simplicity and frugality. I believe in being a good steward of all that God has blessed us with, including our money, our resources, our home, our earth, and our bodies.

I am a crafter. I love working with my hands: scrapbooking, knitting, gardening, baking, embroidering, sewing, taking pictures, and playing cello. I enjoying learning about and practicing these arts.

I am a teacher. I teach kindergarten special education at an Early Childhood and Family Learning Center in a small Kansas town. I believe that teaching is a high calling and am excited about the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children! I am over half way through the coursework to obtain my master’s degree in adaptive special education – I love learning additional methods to help my students learn and grow.

I am MSG free. I lived with daily migraines for over five years of my life. Despite MRI’s, CAT scans, blood work, traditional food allergy testing, physical strength assessments, and medication trials no cause or effective treatment could be found. In the fall of 2008, I decided to experiment with changing my diet to reduce my migraines. I found that when I removed MSG from my diet, the migraines almost completely disappeared. In general, since this large change in my diet I have one migraine every two-three months. If you would like more information about MSG’s and my journey, see my Recipes Tab.

  1. Hi Vanessa,
Thank you so much for setting up email!!!!
I’m am not computer savvy didn’t even realize your website was a blog.
I appreciate the time you and your husband took to get this set up.
Our church secretary sent out your link to our church listserver referring to the MSG article, thats how I found your site.
God is certainly using you to do His work. It is refreshing to go to something on line and be encouraged and uplifted about being a woman, a wife and mother.
God bless you and your family!
