Confession: Why I Am So Organized

One of the questions that I get repeatedly through this blog and in real life (and perhaps, a little teasing from the people closest to me) is how I manage to stay so organized. The answer is two fold: I’m not always so organized (thus, the confession) but my organization is a necessity for me!

I recently learned (though, my mom has been telling me for a long time to look into it) that I have ADD. To meet the diagnosis of ADD, an adult should meet 12 out of 20 qualifications; I meet 13. My mind roles at a speed that I cannot keep up with very easily; I can often be found bouncing from one activity to the next. I pursued the diagnosis when I learned that the racing mind of an ADD person often experiences periods of insomnia. Turns out with a natural treatment of Cod Liver Oil taken daily, I function and sleep much better! But anyways, you’re not reading this to hear about ADD, you’re reading for my confession!

I am so organized because I have to be – it is the way that I have taught myself to cope with my scattered brain!

Without a calendar I forget things like trash day, refilling prescriptions, and meetings.

Without a to do list I forget what I have promised other I will do, letters of encouragement I intended to write, or small tasks that need completed around the house.

Without labels on boxes or bottles I put oxygen bleach rather than water in the iron or open three boxes to find the medicine that I need.

Without a running to do list I completely forget that we need brown sugar or milk when I make out the shopping list.

Yes, those were all confessions! Yes, I ironed several clothing items with oxygen bleach rather than water – they smelled good, but needed washed again! Those are reasons why I have come to love organizing – it’s the only way that things can run smoothly around here! Plus, I love that even if I am not home anybody could find what they need if they knew the correct general area to look!

I also have ADD….so I completely understand everything you have written here. Now that I have my diagnosis, I have been trying to organize my life to make it easier on myself. Congrats on being so organized!
