On Dogs

I figure I should post an update before things get confusing; there has been a change in our dog situation. About two months ago, Cole and I took in a puppy named Lilly. She was sweet, energetic, and lovable. However, we soon learned that she had a lot of energy and was home all day by herself while we were at work. We also learned that she could not handle eating large meals, but instead needed to be fed 3-4 times throughout the day in order to not get sick. These two concerns along with her allergies which caused her to scratch herself until she bled led us to the conclusion that she needed to be in a home where somebody was home with her all day – something we could only offer three months of the year. So, with some tears, we returned her to the program we adopted her from. Luckily, she is returning to the prison where she was trained to continue receiving love and care throughout the entire day while she waits for a home more suitable for her. It broke my heart to have to give her back and I decided that I did not want another dog for now. That was Saturday.

Early the next week, an email went out at Cole’s work saying that a family had a sweet, well-behaved, four year old husky who needed a new home. She was a great dog but needed a quiet home without children where she could nap and be undisturbed. That was something that we could provide! Because we believe that, for a season, God has called us to wait on having children, we have a quiet home where she could be happy. And, Cole and I have wanted a Husky since long before we were married. We agreed to meet with the dog’s owner and do a trial visit with the dog in our home. By the end of the first evening, we were so in love. So, we have a beautiful new dog named Isis! She is so well-behaved, has a fun personality, enjoys walks, and loves to be my companion throughout my day’s activities. God has blessed us so much through this new puppy!

  1. How beautiful!!! Congratulations! That was very loving of you to do what you did. Love is not selfish, and you really did look out for the best interest of your first pup. Huskies are awesome dogs. My best friend has a husky, and he is GREAT with kids…so when they do come… =) Best wishes!
