Playing is Learning

I spend A LOT of time “playing.” You see, I teach kindergarten special education based on the idea that playing is learning. My kiddos are young and they still love to play! They also struggle to learn and find “learning activities” incredibly difficult; for many of my students, activities that seem to difficult induce extreme anxiety. But when we play, that anxiety is lessened. And while they don’t even realize it, their little brains begin organizing, processing, and learning difficult information.

I am going to begin sharing some of the play that goes on in my classroom on my blog. These will be simple and inexpensive ideas to make learning fun for children. Hopefully, these ideas will be beneficial to you – they are great for young children and can be adapted to meet the needs of older students. Most of ideas would work well both in the classroom, at home before going to school, and as a part of an early childhood homeschool program.

I hope that you will enjoy all of the play! I know that I sure do!
