How I am Memorizing

One of the items on my list of 101 Things in 1001 Days is to memorize 30 verses of scripture. I have an easy way of helping myself (a very poor memorizer) accomplish this task.

I wrote several of the first verses that I wanted to memorize on small notecards (these were scraps from cutting out the animated alphabet characters for my classroom). I then post these cards in places where I often find myself but without anything for my mind to be doing – like in the car to meditate on while driving on uneventful roads, the bathroom mirror for while brushing my teeth, or above the sink to think about while preparing dinner or washing dishes. I find that the more I am exposed to these scriptures the easier I am able to commit them to memory. I love committing them to memory because then they can be always on my mind.

Do you have any other ideas for helping me memorize scripture? Do you use any tricks to help you?

    Hey Vanessa,

I would challenge you to listen to this message about scripture memorization that I heard this August at a women’s conference. It has changed how I think about and go about memorizing scripture. She is a wealth of information!

music/rhythm. the verses i can sing, i remember best. and when i worked at camp, we memorized ephesians 2:10 with the kids. it was to a beat, so kind of like rapping, and i will NEVER forget that verse.
