Cole and I are making more of a conscious effort this fall to balance our diets across entire days. The better we do at balancing our diets, the more healthy we feel! I love the productivity of days when my diet is very balanced!
According to the food pyramid our dietary needs are as follows:
Women 19 – 30
Grains: 6 ounces
Fruit: 2 cups
Veggies: 2.5 cups
Milk: 3 cups
Meat/Beans: 5.5 ounces
Men 19 – 30
Grains: 8 ounces
Fruit: 2 cups
Veggies: 3 cups
Milk: 3 cups
Meat/Beans: 6.5 ounces
It’s not hard at all to eat all of these healthy foods everyday. All it requires is being conscious of your food decisions. Here’s what I have done to help us make better decisions:

I printed a sheet for each of us that listed a food group and has a box for each half cup or half ounce that we need in a day. I put these two sheets in page protectors and taped them to the fridge. Now, as I pack our lunches, prepare our dinners, and as we eat breakfast or snack, we use a wipe marker to cross off a box. As the day progresses, we can make decisions based on the parts of our diet we still need for the day.
At the end of the day we wipe the board clean and start over.
