One simple way that we can save money in our food budget is through making sure that we do not waste food that we have purchased.
Last year I asked for a dehydrator for Christmas and I have put it to work! When vegetables we have purchased – carrots, celery, and onion – are about to go bad, I chop them into small parts and dehydrate them.

I use these dehydrated vegetable in winter soups that cook slowly all day in the crock pot or to add flavor when making chicken broth.
This post is a part of Kitchen Tip Tuesday and Works for Me Wednesday.

That is a great idea Vanessa! What type of dehydrator do you have?
I have this dehydrator: http://www.amazon.com/Nesco-American-FD-1010-Gardenmaster-Dehydrator/dp/B00005OA2T/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1251844933&sr=1-4.
It was on a great sale at Amazon last winter and it’s what I asked my hubby for at Christmas/my birthday.
Hey Vanessa its Hannah Troutt– would you by any chance like to let me interview you (as a special ed teacher) for one of my Block 1 classes?
great tip! Just another reason for me to put that dehydrator on my list!!!
Great idea especially for these winter months! Thank you for sharing.
Great idea!!
