New Pillows for the Basement

I have been busy sewing the during the past week or two. One of the projects that has been so much fun is working on these pillows for the basement.

All of the checked pillows that have cabin themes images on them are made from a tablecloth purchased on sale. The plaid pillows are made from “Fat Stack” that I purchased at a garage sale for $.25. Yay for frugal home decorations!

The pillows are so fluffy and very supportive while relaxing on the basement furniture. The big pillows will even serve as floor pillows when we have lots of company.

What crafty projects have you been working on recently?

  1. Very nice pillows! Clever idea, to use a tablecloth. :)

The most expensive part of making pillows is the forms — that’s what always kills me!

I felt the same way about the price of the forms! We did some calculations and found that we could purchase enough of the more expensive pillow stuffing to make the pillows very firm and not lumpy for less than we could buy the forms. We saved a good bit of money doing it that way!

Your pillows look great! I wish I knew how to sew. Goodness knows I could save so much money on making my own clothes as well as stuff/decorations for the house. Hope you are having a wonderful summer so far!

Sewing is really not as hard as it looks. I am not very good at all right now – all of my projects are simple. But the only way to learn is to give it a try! See if there is a machine of a friend that you can borrow and just experiment on; it’s been a lot of fun to learn how to do.

A simple book about how to sew should get you started with the very basics of how to sew. I promise, it’s not as hard as it looks and really fun once you get going!
