Yesterday a package came. A wonderful wonderful package. Inside….

… that’s right! It’s an electric cello! I have been playing cello at church on the worship team; however, while we are all playing it’s hard to hear myself play or for others to hear the cello. It’s such a quiet instrument.

(Such a small case!)
So we casually looked up the price of an electric instrument and found that you can get them very reasonably if you are willing to be patient and wait for an instrument in our target price range. And after a month or so of waiting this one was listed. We snatched it up!

Playing it last night was fantastic! It has the beautiful, rich sound of a cello but can be played loud enough to be heard from the front of the church without a microphone.

I decided several years ago that I wanted to have gerbils in my classroom.
It can be very expensive to purchase all of the necessary supplies to start a gerbil home. I decided that I could spend much less than the $80 I was told would be required to get started raising gerbils.

I purchased this aquarium and the food bowl for five bucks at a garage sale. The bedding, a small cage (for during cleanings), and the play tower are from when hubby had gerbils as a little kid. I paid a few dollars for the aquarium lid and will purchase a ball, wheel, and water bottle today after having shopped around for the best deal.
I found a woman in the city who has several young gerbils that she is giving away to people who will come and pick them up. Today I am taking this aquarium to pick up two little gerbils for my classroom.
One of my friends and I named the cello…..Enrique Antonio Eduardo Valdez. We just call him Enrique.
The gerbils were named by my husband. George (for Curious George) and Einstein (sometimes he gets what is going on in the world and sometimes he seems to be confused).

I think you should let the kiddos name the gerbils..maybe give them choices and let them vote? Bonnie and Clyde comes to mind. Heh.
As for your cello, I think it looks like a preying mantis, but that’s probably not what you were looking for.
Congratulations on your new cello! Are you going to sell your old one?
A name for the cello… tuxedo? That’s the only thing that comes to mind.
I like the idea the pp suggested with giving the gerbils a matching name.
Hmmm….Since you already are calling the cello TDH, it sounds sorta like Teddy Hoosier….. I laughed at the praying mantis comment…she’s right! Highlights for kids has a science story about a praying mantis called Manny. I thought of Bert and Ernie for the gerbils until I remembered that you’re not a Sesame Street fan.
I love the names Gus Gus and Jack, taken from the famous mice duo in Cinderalla.
That is possibly my all time favorite movie!
