This week’s challenge at Biblical Womanhood was to clean up the kitchen area.
Today there was no school for students or teachers after a long week of parent teacher conferences. I spent this morning working to clean out and clean up the kitchen. It was a fantastic Friday morning!
First I cleaned out the pantry.

Cole and I have been making more and more from scratch which has reduced the number of different foods that we need in our pantry but has increased the amount that we need of those few foods. This week we bought six 5 gallon buckets from home depot to store some of the food items we purchase large amounts of: flour, sugar, rice, bread flour, egg noodles, and oats.
I made some really pretty labels to cover the ugly picture on the buckets and turn them into a pretty part of my pantry:

I also cleaned out/organized the fridge:

Ah! Much better!
I went through the freezers and took a complete inventory of all the food that is stored in the inside freezer and the outside deep freezer. I am so amazed by the amount of nutritious food that we have been able to stock pile by keeping track of prices and shopping the best sales!
Your bucket labels are really cute.
Vanessa,
Those labels on the bulk storage buckets are SO cute!! I swear, I need to pick your creative brain one day. You obviously have too much fun up there. Your house looks awesome and I am so in awe that you can keep it like that while working! I am jealous!!
Ok… i’m not joking anymore…. when you need something to do, PLEASE call me…. i would LOVE to have my kitchen and all my craft stuff so perfectly organized. I’d even give you cash to buy whatever we needed to make it happen! Your ideas are fantastic. Maybe you should be a ‘life efficiancy coach’.
Yes Sarah! Let’s do it this summer – that would be so much fun and wonderful time with a good friend!
I love what you’ve done with your pantry. The buckets are a great idea! Thanks for the inspiration.
I just discovered your blog. I love your buckets and labels. Would you mind emailing me and telling me where you got the buckets and how you did the labels? They’re so cute! Chris Williams
I purchased my buckets at Home Depot and cleaned them very well! I am not sure that they are technically food grade, but since they do not get hot I am not too worried about it. You can get food grade buckets online such as these: http://beprepared.com/category.asp?c=442&name=Food-Grade%20Storage%20Containers&bhcd2=1254414186.
I scrapbooked the labels using paper and stamps that I had in my craft boxes. Then used contact paper to secure them to the buckets. I highly recommend having somebody help you put the contact paper on the bucket so that it doesn’t crease where you don’t want it to!
Enjoy!
