Oh goodness, does my Cole love oatmeal for breakfast! Making this recipe saves so much money and nutrition when compared to purchasing the pre-made packets! He loves to get to work early so that he can come home around the same time I do (teachers start and end our days early!) – thus he usually eats breakfast at work. When I make up a batch of oatmeal packets he takes them to work to make up there by adding some water to the desired consistency.
I make up about a month’s worth of oatmeal and put each serving into a snack sized plastic bag. He saves the bag and when he begins to run low, I make some more.
Oatmeal – 1 serving
1/4 c. oats
1/4 c. blended oats
1/8 t. salt
To make special flavors, add the following:
Apple Cinnamon:
1 T. sugar
1/4 t. cinnamon
2 T. chopped apples
Brown Sugar and Cinnamon
1 T. brown sugar
1/4 t. cinnamon
Enjoy!
I would really like to do this for my hubby, and kids too! Zion loves to eat those oatmeal packets from the store, but I know they’re loaded with things other than oats and whatever fruit they claim to have in it. Hopefully I’ll get around to doing oatmeal packets like you soon!
I also really like your idea for dehydrating the apples- such a great idea!!!
I think it was more the inability to prepare bacon and eggs at work than it was an undying love for oatmeal that led to it being the breakfast of choice on weekdays.
We also don’t make the apple cinnamon oatmeal given in this post. Instead, we make the brown sugar & cinnamon oatmeal and add dried apples to it. I found the listed recipe for apple cinnamon oatmeal to be too tasteless.
Hi, just looking over this recipe and wondering what blended oats are. thanks!
They’re just normal oats blended up. We typically use a KitchenAid chef’s chopper since it’s smaller to clean up.
