Simple Bliss :: Playing “Grump”

My family plays a game called Grump whenever we are together. I don’t know how long the game has been around, but my earliest memories of family gatherings include this game.

It’s a lot like solitaire, but you play off of everybody’s aces in the middle of the table. Each person also has a stack of thirteen cards, called the Grump Pile. The objective of the game is to get rid of that pile of cards first and yell “Grump!”

As the family has gotten bigger, more people have been added to the table but the table has not grown:

It’s a wonderful time that often breaks down into sheer giggles as we all attempt to play with very little space.

I love it!

    I play this with friends… for my friend Britni, it’s a family tradition as well. In high school, our youth group played this, and it wasn’t a real game if there wasn’t blood (you try playing with 30+ people on the floor… lol!) Anyway, I’ve never heard it called Grump! I know it as Nertz!

    We call it Nertz also, and it was always a good way to pass a long evening in with the Landon’s. It has been a long time since I have played it!

    Any pictures of the basement going to be on your site? Looking forward to those.
