Some sources that I have found to be wonderfully helpful when looking for recipes that are MSG-free or can easily be made MSG-free are:
The Betty Crocker Cookbook
The version I have is my mother-in-law’s and was published in 1974. Hopefully a newer version of this cookbook would still have lots of yummy make-from-scratch recipes. But look for an older copy – the pictures and instructions are so much better if you love the homemaking arts!
The Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook
Same story as above the Betty Crocker Cookbook.
More with Less Cookbook
This is a cookbook with Mennonite recipes. It was written based on the idea that if we use more simple ingredients and save more money with our cooking we will have more resources to provide to the hungry people around the world. I can support that! And the from-scratch recipes are super yummy!
Tammy’s Recipes
This is a blog of a woman who I have grown to respect while reading. She seems to be very honest, very kind, and a very good cook! Most of the recipes she posts are made-from-scratch and MSG-free.
I will be posting tons of recipes as I try more and more. I will try to cite where I got them from and show what my version ended up looking like!
I am also planning to show how I adapt existing recipes to make them mostly or wholly MSG-gree.

Does the diet seem to be helping your headaches at all? That’s something I’ve never tried…
It’s amazing! I haven’t had a headache in one and a half months and I’ve been lowering the dosage of medicine I’m taking with no negative side effects!
I need dinners that can be made within my busy schedule as I work fulltime attend classes and have three daughters. One of my daughters suffers from severe migraines that make her pass out and the doctor wants her to cut out MSG’s. I am having difficulty finding recipes on the internet that are MSG free. Can anyone give me some help with this?
I found this e-book be Lisa Burnell. I’m going to try some of these recipes this weekend. Some of the ingredients do have MSG. You have to know your ingredients but the concept of ‘make at home’ is the same. She also proposes making mixes in bulk.
I also recommend the book ‘Heal you Headaches- The 1-2-3 Program’ by Dr David Buchholz. Just had a visit with my local Neurologist today and she said this doctor is highly reputable in the migraine field. I’m following his program and haven’t had a headache for 4 days(Huge for me).
Good Luck!
Check out Lisa Kramer’s No MSG For Me Cookbook at http://www.nomsgforme.com. I have found it very helpful and great place to start. It includes tips for shopping for MSG free products and has a list of MSG free ingredients. It makes cooking without MSG a lot easier. I made an amazing Chicken Divan last night and her chicken noodle soup tonight. My family loved them both.
