from the mouth of Bilbo

This morning I am, in addition to other things, watching the extended edition of The Fellowship of the Rings. I’ve never seen the extended version before and was struck by some early lines by Bilbo Baggins.

After describing the Hobbits as people who work the land, love things that grow, enjoy good food, are very simple, don’t get involved in the “big” world, enjoy daily life, etc. he says:

“And, yes, no doubt to others, our ways seem quaint…It is no bad thing to celebrate a simple life.”

I love those words; may they ring true in my life as well as in yours!
