10 Things I Do Not Understand

In high school, probably 4-6 years ago, I created a list of ten things that I did not understand (not in any order). My list went like this:

1. How people can claim to know Jesus and be a Christian and yet choose not to try to live for him
2. Why life just sucks sometimes.
3. Why my car dislikes third gear.
4. Why “bad” is so popular when good is so much better.
5. Why Jesus would choose to love me.
6. Calculus.
7. How people can see the beauty of creation and doubt that God exists.
8. Hate.
9. Why God would choose to use people in his plan-he’s perfect and we’re NOT!!
10. Why, after dealing with a particular sin or struggle in my life, I can fall back into it so easily.

I thought that was a pretty good list of things that I didn’t understand. As I’ve grown older, my list continues to grow. Everyday there are new things that I realize I do not understand.

A few things got removed from my list. I have a new car and it’s an automatic, so I don’t have to worry about number three anymore. I gave up on calculus after high school, so number six is no longer relevant. But the others are things that I have been known to think about for long periods of time. The number of things I don’t understand continues to grow. But I am learning to be okay with that.

Life is not about knowing, it’s about doing. I’m resolved to worry less about knowing and choose to simply live this life that God has given to me!
